I’m in. I support you.
You’ve got my support. The only thing missing here are a few hundred other reasons why this is not a good idea. But I am sure that they will be all included sooner than later.
I’m in.
I’m proud to add my name to the list of supporters.
I support SOL!
This is great! I’m in.
Glad to see you here. Been reading a lot about this. For instance:
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/09/27/business/27libraries.html (See comments, they raise a lot of concerns.)
Here is a quote from that: “A lot of libraries are atrocious,” Mr. Pezzanite said. “Their policies are all about job security. That’s why the profession is nervous about us. You can go to a library for 35 years and never have to do anything and then have your retirement. We’re not running our company that way. You come to us, you’re going to have to work.”
I don’t think our local libraries are “atrocious” and often get books from far away using the County System.
I wonder what a local librarian might have to say to Mr. Pezzanite’s demonizing characterization of them.
…a proud signer.
Thanks for speaking up Elaine. We’re with you. We’re glad you’re with us.
I like the library how it is right now. There is not need to change. At least I can’t see any reasons that convince me otherwise.
I am so in!
I live outside the city limits, but I am a frequent library user. Has the city ever answered the question about the unincorporated areas using the LSSI libraries?
Add another to the list
Add me to the list.
I’m glad to see proactive opposition to this atrocious decision by the city counsel. I was under the impression that they were successful in railroading their agenda through, and that we had no recourse or say in the matter. (So much for representative government.) I believe public libraries should remain in the public domain. Privatizing information channels is one of the biggest dangers to liberty of our time.
Add me to the list. This has got to stop.
Thank you to one and all involved in stopping the privatization of our libraries. We want experienced librarians and the complete resources of one of the largest County Library systems in the country–not a few extra hours to read the few books available in our three local libraries. Were we allowed to vote on such an important question? No. Were our opinions even requested on this major public issue? No. Is it OK to give our private information to a public company? No. Is it time we remove these council members who seem to bow to every construction company and never to the people who voted for them? YES!
The library functions great as is…there is no need to outsource our library needs. Why would City Council be in favor of this change??? People need to remember who these people are during the next election!
Thank you for spreading the word on this!
I’ve lived here since graduating from Cal Arts; have raised a family here- constantly checked out childrens books when my kids were growing up; now check out books for my 82-yr old father and as the result of company down-sizing and working long hours, I am truly grateful to having audio books to listen to while commuting.
I just heard about this from a friend and am very upset. I still have a lot of unanswered questions and I support you. When do you think our questions will be answered? And what can we do about this?
Glad you are doing this!
